Our Ericeira recommendations
Our favorite town to visit!
We love spending a long, lazy week staying at an Airbnb in the heart of Ericeira. (Click here for some of the Airbnbs we have saved or stayed at over the years— we specifically stay to the West of the major road in the actual village center, or Vila d’Ericeira!) There are some gorgeous hotels nearby, like Aethos, but not in the center of things— they’re great choices for a spa weekend or true retreat, but a 15 minute drive away from Vila d’Ericeira’s easy charm.
A day (or week) in Ericeira
If staying in the heart of Ericeira, you won’t need a car! It’s very walkable. When we take our summer vacation here, we spend most days having lazy breakfasts in the town square, reading our books on the beach, having a glass of wine overlooking the ocean in the late afternoon, and then having a delicious dinner before and an evening stroll through town. You’ll find lots of cute shops to peruse, and surfers have good options for accessible breaks and board rentals.

Mar d’Areia // A great place to get grilled fish, clams, and traditional Portuguese food— in fact, Mar d’Areia is probably our favorite place in town to do just that. They get busy, so it’s worth going for lunch or asking about a reservation earlier in the day.
Mar das Latas // This is a small restaurant and wine bar that’s cash only where you can sit and watch the sun set. (Pictured!) You can also stand and watch the sun set, and they’ll give you an empty wine crate that’s been sawed down to nestle perfectly on the ledge that separates the street from the sea. Every sunset, a crowd gathers around Mar das Latas as people have a glass of vinho verde and watch another gorgeous day in Ericeira come to a close.
Ribas Marisquiera // A slightly fancier restaurant serving classic Portuguese seafood—and with an ocean view! Delicious.
Balagan // A Middle Eastern inspired all-day coffee and breakfast spot that turns into an amazing bar and restaurant later in the day. Come for a great iced coffee at 11 AM and then back for an incredible cocktail and appetizer at 4 PM.
Costa Fria // The most avant garde and modern restaurant in town— really incredible food overlooking the ocean.
Capsule // Zoe’s favorite coffee shop in town! She will come here every day to read her book and enjoy an exquisite fresh croissant and coffee or matcha. (Pictured!)
Harvest Moon // A great jewelry store with one-of-a-kind wares made by hand by its owner, an Ericeira local.
Biju // One of Zoe’s favorite places to shop for accessories.
